Before

This 31 year old female presented with an orthodontic problem that was primarily skeletal due to excesive growth of her lower jaw and a tendency toward an anterior open bite. She was given the option of treatment combining braces and jaw surgery, or only braces to fix her bite. Jaw surgery would decrease the size of her lower jaw and bring the upper jaw slightly forward thus changing her face and her bite. She did not want to go through jaw surgery and selected to only wear braces. The "braces only" option required the extraction of two lower teeth to "camoflauge" her excessive lower jaw. Her lower teeth were retracted behind her upper teeth and extruded to close the bite. Treatment with braces took approximately 3 years.
