This 8 year old female came to our office because she needed help to stop a thumb sucking habit. Her teeth do not come together in the front because her thumb habit has moved them apart and kept her teeth from growing towards each other. We made her a special appliance to cover the roof of her mouth  and prevent her from sucking her thumb. This appliance is attached to her teeth so it is not removable and worn 24 hours a day. After about 6 months, she has stopped sucking her thumb and her teeth are touching in the front. She may or may not need additional orthodontic treatment in the future.
